June is National Reunification Month

The goal of foster care is, of course, to reunify families. June is National Reunification Month, which recognizes and celebrates the daunting challenges parents overcome to allow their children to return home to a safer, more stable, and more secure family.

Ultimately, the weight of meeting conditions for return rests on the parents’ shoulders – but having support is crucial to a timely and successful reunification. And foster parents, relatives, and professionals can help play a significant role in it. One of the most powerful things we can do is to be encouraging and let parents know we are rooting for their success – and recognize that children have a right to be raised in their family of origin whenever safe and possible.

If you’re looking for ways to support a family you’re working with or parents in general, please contact the Coalition at 414-475-1246 and ask to speak to a Resource Specialist.
