In July 2019, the Coalition for Children, Youth & Families introduced Champion Classrooms to Wisconsin’s caregivers of children. More than just a digital learning platform, it is a space where caregivers can learn, grow, and connect with others who understand the unique needs of their families.
At the Coalition, we believe learning doesn’t just happen in a training—it blossoms when a parent whispers, “I think I’m doing this all wrong,” and finds encouragement in knowing they are not alone. It grows when a grandparent raising their grandchild realizes that grief might be behind those confusing behaviors. And it takes root when a foster parent discovers a practical tip that changes how a child sleeps, eats, or feels safe.
Champion Classrooms was created to offer learning experiences as real and responsive as the families we serve. As we sat reading through over 300 survey responses collected from caregivers who participated in recorded webinars, online courses, and hybrid courses, we realized what was at the heart of them all: HOPE.
Caregivers are putting what they’ve learned into action:
-
“This training has provided guidance on how to have realistic and compassionate conversations about complex family relationships with our 14-year-old foster daughter.”
-
“I will try to use a more strengths-focused approach and work on controlling what I can control.”
Presenters—and the stories they shared—deeply resonated with caregivers:
-
“The personal stories that Gaelen shared made the information so much more meaningful.”
-
“I felt as if we were sharing a discussion at the kitchen table over a cup of coffee.”
Caregivers found encouragement and validation:
-
“Thanks for the information—it will help me remember the importance of relationships and attachment with all the kiddos in my home.”
-
“I’m glad this confirmed what we already have in place.”
Learning in Champion Classrooms isn’t about being perfect—it’s about being present, even in the hard times:
-
“My caregiving journey has involved gaining knowledge from my experience and from others. The knowledge the instructor shared was quite beneficial.”
-
“Caring for children…is always in flux. We are always learning from them and with them.”
These comments show you’re not just watching webinars—you’re sitting with hard truths, searching for ways forward, and choosing connection in the middle of complexity.
You’re showing up. And we are here with you. Thank you for helping us make Champion Classrooms more than a platform—it’s a place where growth, grief, joy, and questions all belong.
